In a 2-year field study funded by NOCSAE and run by University of Wisconsin Madison with ~3,000 high school soccer players, the Storelli's ExoShield Head Guard reduced the relative risk of concussions by ~50% overall and 60% in females specifically (97-98% risk ratio statistical confidence). Of all the products included in the study, the ExoShield Head Guard was the only product to show any statistically significant benefits.

The study above represents the largest field study ever conducted on the topic. While the results achieved by the Storelli ExoShield Head Guard are highly encouraging, Storelli believes more research should be conducted to solidify the industry's understanding of the value of headgear. For this reason, we are working to ensure more research is conducted.

In addition, Storelli cares to emphasize that while top-quality headgear may indeed prove to reduce the relative risk of concussions, it will never fully abate risks. For example, a player may suffer a concussion after a hit to a part of the face not covered by headgear, or the impact may be too strong to be sufficiently absorbed by the protection. We believe we are making positive steps in the right direction, but it's important to understand the limitations of what head protection can do, and the need for more and deeper data analysis.

The Head Guard is designed to reduce the risks of cuts and impact to head during participation in soccer, but cannot and does not prevent all risk of head injuries. Participation in soccer and other sports exposes the participant to the risk of injuries, and participation in such sports implies acceptance of such risk.

No helmet, head gear or head protection device can prevent all head, neck or facial injuries. A user may sustain head injuries (which may include concussions or other brain-related injuries) notwithstanding his or her use of the Head Guard, and there are areas of the head and face that are not covered or protected by the Head Guard. In addition, for maximum performance, the Head Guard must be sized and fitted properly, and replaced promptly if fit loosens over time or falls off during participation in soccer or other sports.

Best product to keep my Keeper safe!

As a parent, there is nothing more settling, than knowing your child is safe. The ExoShield Head Guard keeps my boy in the game and protects him from the risk of concussion. I wish more parents took advantage of this product. We tell all of our teammates about it!

    Order a smaller size

I read tons of reviews prior to purchasing the headband. Most of them said that the headband ran large and that many people had to buy a smaller size. My son's head measured 22.5" which was at the top of a size 5 and the bottom of a size 6. He also has thick hair. So, I thought surely the size 5 would work. After 1 training session he said it was falling in his eyes the whole time. I then purchased a size 4 which was initially really tough for him to get on, but he says it's perfect once he starts sweating. The sizing is way off. Again, 22.5" head size should order a size 4 headband.

    Love this thing!

Love it! So comfy for my 9year old keeper! Gives a little more peace of mind during tough games.

Super helpful! Should have had this all along!

    works well

When I first put it one it was very tight and I was going to return it. But after wearing it fit fine and I forgot that I was wearing it. Maybe the heat/sweat changed the shape of it.

    Great concept, watch the sizing

My son had a concussion because of a car accident. The neurosurgeon recommended abound before he could be cleared to play soccer again. I saw the great reviews about this and I measured his head and ordered the size 4. When it came it was so big it didn't fit him I put it on my head and it didn't fit me. However it fit my other son who has an amazingly large head. We ended up having to go down to a size 2 from the four that was measured. Not sure if we measured wrong, however he's 12 and looking at the reviews and measurement chart I thought a 4 would have been appropriate. Unfortunately it's now a $60 mistake. The child who it fits doesn't want to use it and isn't required in the league

    Good protection

I bought size 1 for my 2 year old late walker to protect his back head and forehead when he falls. It is thick enough and light weight. Size 1 was still a little big but wearable. I’ve tried size 2 for myself and it was very comfortable.

Measure carefully, not super stretchy, solid protection

My six year old is very accident prone. We bought this for her to wear around the house and at the playground to protect her from further injury. She was able to wear it comfortably most of the day every day last week. It is not quite as soft or as squishy as I thought it would be, but it is comfortable to wear & she likes it. It has already saved her head twice - once from slipping in the hall & a second time when she fell forward on the seesaw.

    Great product

Extra protection for sports and peace of mind for parents; anything to prevent a concussion for our children.

    So far, so good

So far, so good with the Storelli. My 12-year-old son has been wearing it about a month. I made the decision based upon the Virginia Tech research, comparing various other head bands. I also considered the new GameBreaker Aura, which has an identical rating as the Storelli, but decided on the Storelli for the slightly extra coverage in the back of the head. I am concerned more with falls to the ground on the back of the head than I am with headers, so I liked the Storelli design with the larger coverage on the back. My son likes it. It's light and easy to put on and remove. It looks just like a regular sweat band, not heavy or bulky like some of the other brands. For my son, the breaking point was when he fell and hit the back of his head on a turf field. It wasn't a hard fall, not a concussion, but he did have a small headache the rest of the game, and did come out of the game. Had he been wearing the Storelli at the time, the impact and effect would have been less. He's headed the ball a few times with it and says he doesn't feel it. I'll buy another one when this one wears out. I have not washed it yet and see no wear/tear. Overall, happy with the product. Every player should have one.

    Good first impression

I bought size 3 and size 4 for my 8-year-old. His head circumference measures to be about 21 inches. Both sizes fit him but decided to keep size 4. I had him jump around to see if it would fall off and it seems to stay in place but we haven’t tested in soccer practice yet. I bought this to prevent goose eggs if he runs into another player going for the same ball. I was worried he would reject this so I was relieved when he smiled with approval after he looked in the mirror. Glad there’s a company that makes this. Something is better than nothing! Suggestions for improvement: better packaging so item doesn’t come folded with two creases in the foam. I think the size 4 may have been a return because it came in a bag whereas the size 3 came in a nice box with better packaging. Update: size 4 stretched out. We are saving it for when he’s older but I went and ordered size 3 for this year.
