Nov 11, 2017

If someone told you that 85% of the population of the United States was at risk for brain injury and dementia, you would think people would be alarmed. Right?

You’d also wonder why, if they knew it, would so many choose to avoid even talking about an issue so potentially devastating. This is the troubling question facing soccer today. A mounting body of evidence now links the beautiful game and its 275 million worldwide participants to the risks of cumulative brain microtrauma and dementia from heading. As fans, parents, and players, we can no longer ignore the facts.

In a new BBC1 documentary, Alan Shearer: Dementia, Football and Me, England’s legendary striker talks candidly about the disturbing new research on heading, his own struggles with its aftermath, and his battle to expose the problem.

If you love the sport of soccer, tune in for Alan’s perspective.
